As Telecoms reported on February 18, Virgin Media O2 and owner Liberty Global and Telefonica have confirmed that they are in talks with a number of potential financial partners for a new fibre network. The new entity will apparently be tasked with building a complete fibre network of up to seven million premises in the UK by the end of 2027, with VMo2 acting as the “main tenant” for the new network. The move follows reports last month that some sources said the companies were looking to raise as much as £1bn from investors to fund new projects.Virgin Media O2 will aim to be the main tenant of the new network.”The network will also be available on a wholesale basis to other ISPs,” said CEO Mike Friess.Once completed, the company’s gigabit reach will expand to 23 million locations and it will provide Virgin Media O2 with incremental growth opportunities to serve a wider customer base.”(Editing: Ning Lu)
